Warranty

The 12-month limited warranty on every Snowbird board, what it covers, what it does not, and how to make a claim.

Updated 6 October 2026

Every Snowbird board sold through snowbirdpower.com carries a 12-month limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. This page is the whole warranty. It adds to, and does not reduce, the rights you have under the consumer protection law of the province, territory or state where you live.

What is covered

For 12 months from the date of delivery, Snowbird Power Systems warrants that the board is free of defects in materials and workmanship when used as described in the documentation and within its published ratings. A defect means the board does not do what the product page and documentation say it does: for example, a charger that never starts, a regulator that is out of tolerance, a fuel gauge that cannot be read, or a Bluetooth module that never advertises.

The warranty applies to the original buyer and to the boards listed on the order. Boards bought from a reseller are covered by the reseller's warranty; ask them first, and write to us if that does not resolve it.

What is not covered

The warranty does not cover a board that has been:

  • Run outside its ratings. Input voltage above the published window, charge current above the hardware ceiling, output current above the rail rating, or sustained input power above the board's thermal rating.
  • Used with the chemistry jumper set wrong for the cell. The jumper sets the hardware voltage ceiling. A board set for lithium-ion with a lithium iron phosphate cell, or set for a rechargeable chemistry with a primary lithium thionyl chloride cell, is outside its design, and the result can damage the cell as well as the board.
  • Physically damaged. Water, corrosion, conductive debris, dropped or crushed boards, bent connectors, reversed or shorted battery leads, electrostatic damage from handling outside the anti-static bag.
  • Modified. Reworked, repaired by anyone other than us, components added or removed, or firmware replaced with anything other than a signed release.

It also does not cover the cell or any host device, the cost of removing or reinstalling the board, or loss arising from the board being out of service. Normal cosmetic wear is not a defect.

How to make a claim

  1. Email [email protected] with your order number, which board, and what the fault is. Include a photo if the fault is visible, and, if you can read it, the fault register from the library or the BLE telemetry. The more you can tell us about the cell, the input, and the jumper settings, the faster this goes.
  2. We troubleshoot by email first. Many reports are a jumper position, a cell without a thermistor, or a panel outside the input window, and we would rather fix that in a reply than have you ship a board.
  3. If the board needs to come back, we send a return merchandise authorization (RMA) number and a prepaid Canada Post return label. Ship the board alone, in an anti-static bag, with no cell. Write the RMA number on the outside.
  4. We inspect it within 10 business days of receiving it and tell you the outcome.

What the inspection looks at

The inspection is a diagnosis, not a hunt for reasons to decline. We check:

  • the fault you reported, on the bench, with a known cell and input;
  • the chemistry jumper and other solder jumper positions as received;
  • the supervisor's event log, which records faults such as over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature and reversed battery;
  • physical condition: connector damage, corrosion, rework, signs of over-temperature.

If the fault is a defect, the claim is accepted. If the log and condition show the board was run outside its ratings or set up for the wrong cell, we tell you what we found and offer a repair or replacement at cost.

Remedies

For an accepted claim we choose one of:

  • Repair the board and return it to you;
  • Replace it with a new or refurbished board of the same model, or a current equivalent if the model has been superseded;
  • Refund the price paid, through Stripe to the original payment method, if neither repair nor replacement is practical.

Return shipping both ways is at our cost for an accepted claim. A repaired or replacement board carries the remainder of the original 12 months, or 90 days, whichever is longer.

Turnaround

Most accepted claims are resolved within 10 business days of the board arriving. We do not offer cross-shipping, so a replacement ships once the returned board has been received and inspected. If you need a board sooner, buy one and we refund it when the claim is accepted.

Why returned boards matter to us

Every returned board, whether or not the claim is accepted, goes into our engineering failure record with the inspection findings. A field failure is data: it tells us where a rating is too generous, where the documentation was unclear, or where a part is marginal. The record is anonymous; it holds the board, the findings and the order number, not your name.

Safety incidents

If the fault involved heat, smoke, a swollen or vented cell, or any injury or property damage, report it through the incident form at once, even if you also start a warranty claim. We have a legal duty to report such incidents to Health Canada within two days of learning of them, and we would rather hear about it today than when the board arrives.
